A Peaceful Surrender in Brush After Man is Shot

Brush Police Department –

On Monday, September 9th, just before 1am, Brush Police were called to the 800 block of Bob Blvd. for the report of shots fired. As officers were responding, the call was increased to a disturbance where a female party indicated to dispatch that her husband had been shot while in a struggle with another male party that had forced his way into the home. The female was able to escape the home uninjured while officers established a perimeter around the home. Officers were able to make entry and retrieve the victim, who was found to have sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

With the assistance of the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office and the Fort Morgan Police Department, officers on scene were able to negotiate with the suspect, 38 year old Roberto Rico, of Brush, to achieve a peaceful surrender. Rico was transported to the hospital for medical treatment and upon discharge was arrested and booked on a warrant with the charges of attempted homicide in the first degree, menacing, and failure or refusal to leave premises or property upon request by law enforcement. Rico is being held until advisement.
