On February 5, 2024, at approximately 11:55 a.m., Sterling Police officers responded to the Sterling Regional Medical Center regarding a possible stabbing victim. A 39-year-old male victim had been transported there by personal vehicle with serious injuries as a result of multiple apparent stab wounds.
During the immediate investigation, Sterling Police detectives and officers learned of a second stabbing victim, a 29-year-female, suffering a single stab wound who arrived at SRMC with the male victim. She was treated and released with non-life-threatening injuries.
The ensuing investigation revealed that a male suspect, identified as Joshua Lopez, 43 years old of Sterling, assaulted the victims at a residence in the 500 block of Pine Street at approximately 10:30 a.m. on February 5, 2024. Following the incident, Lopez fled the scene on foot.
A thorough investigation continues into the crime as well as an extensive search for Lopez. This was an isolated, targeted incident and the victims were known to the suspect. There is no apparent threat to the general community, however, if he is seen, do not approach and call 9-1-1. Anyone with information as to
Lopez’s whereabouts is encouraged to notify the Sterling Police Department.
An arrest warrant as been obtained for Mr. Lopez for the following charges:
C.R.S. 18-3-202 1 st Degree Assault (x2) Class 3 Felony
Additional charges are expected.
