(WELD COUNTY, COLO) - At 12:49 a.m., a Colorado State Patrol Trooper stopped a black 2023 Honda Accord for speeding on westbound Highway 34 at milepost 101. While on the traffic stop, the Trooper saw evidence of drugs. The suspect alluded to the fact that there was a pipe bomb in the vehicle. The driver of the Honda Accord was arrested. The Weld County Bomb Squad was on scene and assisting. Troopers shut down the area on westbound 34 between HWY 257 and WCR-17, as the roadway was closed.

* UPDATE - Following a traffic stop by a State Trooper early this morning, a 40-year-old male has been detained for DUI. During the course of the traffic stop, the trooper believed he may have seen an item that could have been an explosive device. The driver then told the trooper that the device was a bomb. The road was closed until the vehicle could be properly searched and any explosives identified and safely disarmed. Bomb specialists spent several hours on scene. Shortly after 6:00 am it was determined there were no explosive devices in the vehicle and the roadway was reopened. Investigators are still working on details of this investigation and final charges in this case have not yet been determined.
