Oscar-winning actor Gene Hackman has died at the age of 95. He was found dead alongside his wife, 63-year-old classical pianist Betsy Arakawa, in their home in New Mexico early this morning. (Thursday 2/27) According to the Santa Fe Sheriff’s Office, no foul play is suspected, however the investigation continues.
Gene Hackman’s acting career of over 6 decades, brought him 2 Oscars, the first for his portrayal of Jimmy ‘Popeye’ Doyle in the French Connection, and the 2nd for playing Sheriff Little Bill Daggett in Clint Eastwood’s ‘Unforgiven’. Along with the many iconic roles he played throughout his career, he actually started in radio. He dropped out of school at the age of 16 to join the Marines, as he lied about his age. He was trained as a radio operator while serving in China, where he got work as a disc jockey.
