Yuma Wrestling competed in the regional tournament over the weekend. The boys finished in 10th place out of 16 schools in Akron, and will be sending 2 wrestlers to the state tournament this week at Ball Arena in Denver. Trey Stegman finished in 3rd for 157lbs, while Daden Beauprez won his challenge match to snag the 4th place spot for 175lbs and advance to state. Other placers for Yuma include Deacon Brown at 5th and Augi Montes de Oca at 6th. The girls, meanwhile, finished in 9th out of 26 teams in Fort Lupton, sending 3 wrestlers to state. Chloe Smith finished in 3rd, while Taelynn Robinson and Gese Sanchez both finished in 4th to advance to state. Peyton Hynson also finished in 6th.
Yuma Basketball was swept in their games against very good Merino teams on Friday, with the girls falling 40-31 to the top ranked team in 2A and the boys falling 62-55 to the 2nd ranked team in 2A. The girls led by 1 point at halftime, but Merino used a strong 2nd half to take the lead and build on it as the 2nd half wore on. The boys trailed 22-14 after the first quarter, and made an effort at a comeback in the 2nd half, but Merino was able to keep the Outlaws at arms' length. Yuma Basketball will take on Caliche tomorrow and Byers on Friday to close out the regular season.
