As of Friday, March 28th, folks in Yuma can utilize the services of the Yuma Post Office once again. It’s a welcome relief for not only postal customers but mail carriers as well.
The facility had to close last June, due to the historic severe weather system that brought heavy hail damage to the area, as the building sustained so much damage, that the estimate of reopening was anywhere from 3 months to a year. Ten months later, the doors opened again, as the Post Office boxes returned indoors.
It’s also a relief for the mail carriers, as they had to drive both directions to the Wray Post Office every delivery day, to get the mail for their routes. Customers also relied on the services from the Post Offices in Akron, Eckley, and Otis.
A mobile unit was in place since July (2024) that could house just one postal employee each day to help with the public’s needs, but the heat & air-conditioning in the mobile unit was unreliable.
