On March 7th, at approximately 11:35 PM, officers from the Sterling Police Department were patrolling Pioneer Park after the park was closed and located a suspicious vehicle near the west end of the park. Officers contacted Raymond Wilson, 59 of Merino, who was found sleeping in a black Nissan Frontier.

Upon further investigation, officers observed multiple items of drug paraphernalia, including methamphetamine pipes, in plain view inside the vehicle. During the contact, Wilson reached under the driver’s seat, at which point one officer observed what appeared to be the handle of a handgun. The object was later determined to be a pellet gun.

For officer safety, Wilson was removed from the vehicle and detained. Wilson provided consent for a search of the vehicle and during the search admitted to possessing methamphetamine. Probable cause was established, and a subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered approximately 1.2 ounces of methamphetamine, a significant amount of marijuana, scales, baggies, $1,365 in cash, a .22 long rifle, a methamphetamine bong, multiple pipes, and various other drug paraphernalia.
