On the evening of Friday, January 3rd, officers from the Sterling Police Department initiated a proactive operation to locate individuals with active arrest warrants. This operation led to the arrest of Ryan Allen Horton, a 29-year-old resident of Sterling, who had multiple warrants out for his arrest.
Earlier in the day, officers located a vehicle belonging to Horton in the 100 block of Cucarola Road. It was confirmed that several warrants were associated with Horton’s vehicle, including an active original warrant from the Wiggins Police Department. Horton faces serious charges, including:
1st Degree Criminal Attempted Murder (Felony 2)
Possession and Use of Explosive or Incendiary Device (Felony 2)
Intimidating a Witness or Victim (Felony 4)
Menacing by Means of a Deadly Weapon (Felony 5)
Domestic Violence (Sentence Enhancer)
Violation of a Protection Order (Misdemeanor 2)
Additionally, Horton had seven outstanding Failure to Appear warrants from various agencies, including the Sterling Police Department, Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, and an additional warrant out of Wiggins.
The Sterling Police Department’s Special Enforcement Team began surveillance on Horton’s vehicle throughout the day. At approximately 10:30 PM, officers observed Horton returning to the vehicle. A tactical plan was developed in collaboration with the Logan County Sheriff’s Office. Around midnight, the operation was successfully executed, and Horton was taken into custody without incident.
