Sterling Police Investigate Vehicle Trespasses and Downtown Vandalism

Sterling, CO – April 14th, 2025 –


On Sunday, April 13, 2025, the Sterling Police Department received multiple reports of vehicle trespasses that occurred at Northeastern Junior College. Officers responded and began an active investigation, which included video surveillance footage of the incident.


On the morning of April 14th, Sterling Police received a separate call regarding a male subject reportedly throwing rocks at a delivery truck from the rooftop of a downtown business. Officers responded to the scene and located the individual, identified as Daniel Harms, age 19, of Sterling. Officers observed Harms actively vandalizing a business in the 100 block of North 2nd Street.


Further investigation determined Mr. Harms was also involved in the vehicle trespasses at Northeastern Junior College.


Harms was arrested on multiple charges related to both incidents:


Charges Related to the Downtown Incident:

  • CRS 18-4-203(2) – Second Degree Burglary, Class 4 Felony

  • CRS 18-4-501 – Criminal Mischief, Class 6 Felony

  • CRS 18-4-503(2)(a) – Second Degree Criminal Trespass, Petty Offense


Charges Related to Vehicle Trespasses at Northeastern Junior College:

  • CRS 18-4-502(2)(b) – First Degree Criminal Trespass, Class 1 Misdemeanor (Multiple Counts)

  • CRS 18-4-401(1)(2) – Theft, Class 2 Misdemeanor


The Sterling Police Department continues to investigate these incidents and is asking for the public’s assistance. Anyone with information related to these cases, or who may have witnessed suspicious activity at Northeastern Junior College or in the downtown area, is urged to contact the Sterling Police Department at (970) 522-3512.
